Compiled by the Fengshui Zen editors · About and method
癸未 is pillar 20 of the sixty: the yin water stem 癸 Gui over the Goat branch 未 Wei. The last 癸未 year was 2003 and the next is 2063; the next 癸未 day is Nov 5, 2026. The San Ming Tong Hui gives it the image of the root of the willow, and it shares the Na Yin Willow Wood (杨柳木) with 壬午.

癸未……杨柳根
癸未: the root of the willow.
Why its Na Yin is called 杨柳木, from 「论纳音取象」
木至午而死,至未而墓,故杨柳盛夏叶凋,枝干微弱
Wood dies at 午 and is entombed at 未, so, like the willow, it drops its leaves in high summer and its branches are slender and weak.
Its Na Yin against the facing one, 桑柘木 (壬子 and 癸丑)
桑柘杨柳,一曲一柔,形质多别也
Mulberry and Willow: one bent, one supple, very different in form and substance.

FAQ
Is 癸未 a good or bad pillar?
Not on its own; that depends on the whole chart, which this site does not read. Structurally, Gui has no root in 未, which clashes with 丑 and combines with 午.
What is the Na Yin of Gui Wei?
Willow Wood (杨柳木), which Gui Wei shares with 壬午 Ren Wu; the Na Yin names go in pairs, 30 for the 60 pillars. The San Ming Tong Hui explains how the name was chosen in its 论纳音取象 section, quoted above.
Which years are Gui Wei (癸未) years?
Between 1900 and 2100: 1943, 2003, 2063. Each starts at Lichun, around February 4, not on January 1. Under the Chinese New Year rule the same years are the Year of the Yin Water Goat.
