Compiled by the Fengshui Zen editors · About and method
癸丑 is pillar 50 of the sixty: the yin water stem 癸 Gui over the Ox branch 丑 Chou. The last 癸丑 year was 1973 and the next is 2033; the next 癸丑 day is Dec 5, 2026. The San Ming Tong Hui gives it the image of wood harmed by too little water, and it shares the Na Yin Mulberry Wood (桑柘木) with 壬子.

癸丑……伤水少之木
癸丑: wood harmed by too little water.
Why its Na Yin is called 桑柘木, from 「论纳音取象」
盖气居盘屈,形状未伸,居于水地,蚕衰之月,桑柘受气
Its qi is coiled and not yet stretched out; sitting on water ground in the month when silkworms decline, the mulberry takes in qi.
Its Na Yin against the facing one, 杨柳木 (壬午 and 癸未)
桑柘杨柳,一曲一柔,形质多别也
Mulberry and Willow: one bent, one supple, very different in form and substance.

FAQ
Is 癸丑 a good or bad pillar?
Not on its own; that depends on the whole chart, which this site does not read. Structurally, Gui is rooted in 丑, which clashes with 未 and combines with 子.
What is the Na Yin of Gui Chou?
Mulberry Wood (桑柘木), which Gui Chou shares with 壬子 Ren Zi; the Na Yin names go in pairs, 30 for the 60 pillars. The San Ming Tong Hui explains how the name was chosen in its 论纳音取象 section, quoted above.
Which years are Gui Chou (癸丑) years?
Between 1900 and 2100: 1913, 1973, 2033, 2093. Each starts at Lichun, around February 4, not on January 1. Under the Chinese New Year rule the same years are the Year of the Yin Water Ox.
