Compiled by the Fengshui Zen editors · About and method
癸酉 is pillar 10 of the sixty: the yin water stem 癸 Gui over the Rooster branch 酉 You. The last 癸酉 year was 1993 and the next is 2053; the next 癸酉 day is Oct 26, 2026. The San Ming Tong Hui gives it the image of metal hammers and chisels, and it shares the Na Yin Sword Metal (剑锋金) with 壬申.

Why its Na Yin is called 剑锋金, from 「论纳音取象」
盖申酉金之正位,干值壬癸,金水淬砺,故取象剑锋
申 and 酉 are metal's proper place, and with Ren and Gui as stems, metal is quenched and whetted by water: hence the image of a sword's edge.
Its Na Yin against the facing one, 金箔金 (壬寅 and 癸卯)
金泊剑锋,金木之辨,刚柔之别也
Gold Leaf and Sword Edge: metal on wood branches against metal on metal branches, the soft against the hard.

FAQ
Is 癸酉 a good or bad pillar?
Not on its own; that depends on the whole chart, which this site does not read. Structurally, Gui has no root in 酉, which clashes with 卯 and combines with 辰.
What is the Na Yin of Gui You?
Sword Metal (剑锋金), which Gui You shares with 壬申 Ren Shen; the Na Yin names go in pairs, 30 for the 60 pillars. The San Ming Tong Hui explains how the name was chosen in its 论纳音取象 section, quoted above.
Which years are Gui You (癸酉) years?
Between 1900 and 2100: 1933, 1993, 2053. Each starts at Lichun, around February 4, not on January 1. Under the Chinese New Year rule the same years are the Year of the Yin Water Rooster.
