丁酉 is pillar 34 of the sixty: the yin fire stem 丁 Ding over the Rooster branch 酉 You. The last 丁酉 year was 2017 and the next is 2077; the next 丁酉 day is Nov 19, 2026. The San Ming Tong Hui gives it the image of the uncanny echo of spirits, fire without a form, and it shares the Na Yin Foot of the Mountain Fire (山下火) with 丙申.

Why its Na Yin is called 山下火, from 「论纳音取象」
气息形藏,势力韬光…力微体弱,明不及远
Its qi and form are hidden and its light concealed; weak in strength, its light does not reach far.
Its Na Yin against the facing one, 炉中火 (丙寅 and 丁卯)
炉中山下,火盛木焚,金旺火灭也
Furnace and Foot of the Mountain: fire strong where wood burns, fire going out where metal is strong.

FAQ
Is 丁酉 a good or bad pillar?
Not on its own; that depends on the whole chart, which this site does not read. Structurally, Ding has no root in 酉, which clashes with 卯 and combines with 辰.
What is the Na Yin of Ding You?
Foot of the Mountain Fire (山下火), which Ding You shares with 丙申 Bing Shen; the Na Yin names go in pairs, 30 for the 60 pillars. The San Ming Tong Hui explains how the name was chosen in its 论纳音取象 section, quoted above.
Which years are Ding You (丁酉) years?
Between 1900 and 2100: 1957, 2017, 2077. Each starts at Lichun, around February 4, not on January 1. Under the Chinese New Year rule the same years are the Year of the Yin Fire Rooster.
