FAQ
How accurate is this converter?
We compared every day from 1901 to 2100 (73,048 days) with the Hong Kong Observatory's conversion tables. They agree except where a new moon falls within minutes of midnight; in those cases the converter follows the Observatory.
What is a leap month?
About every three years the Chinese calendar adds a 13th month, a repeat of the month before it, so the months stay in step with the seasons. Tick "Leap month" when converting a date in that repeated month.
Which time zone does it use?
The Chinese calendar is computed in China Standard Time (UTC+8): a lunar month starts on the day the new moon falls in China time. The converter matches dates to that calendar, so it gives the same answer wherever you are.
