FAQ

When is Chinese New Year 2027?

Saturday, February 6, 2027. It begins the Year of the Fire Goat (丁未), which lasts until January 25, 2028.

When is Chinese New Year's Eve 2027?

February 5, 2027, the last day of the previous lunar year, when families traditionally gather for the reunion dinner.

Why does the date of Chinese New Year change every year?

It is the first day of the first month of the Chinese lunisolar calendar: the day of the second new moon after the winter solstice, in every year from 1902 to 2100 except 2034 (the third, after a leap 11th month). That puts it between January 21 and February 20.

How long is the Chinese New Year holiday?

Traditional celebrations run for 15 days, ending with the Lantern Festival on the 15th day of the first month. Public holiday length depends on the country; mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia and others each set their own.

Dates are for China Standard Time (UTC+8), checked against the Hong Kong Observatory, Gregorian-Lunar Calendar Conversion Table. Korea (Seollal) and Vietnam (Tết) keep their own lunar calendars on UTC+9 and UTC+7, so in rare years their New Year falls on a different day from the Chinese one.
