丁卯 is pillar 4 of the sixty: the yin fire stem 丁 Ding over the Rabbit branch 卯 Mao. The last 丁卯 year was 1987 and the next is 2047; today, Oct 20, 2026, is a 丁卯 day. The San Ming Tong Hui gives it the image of smoke from the furnace, and it shares the Na Yin Furnace Fire (炉中火) with 丙寅.

丁卯……为炉烟
丁卯: smoke from the furnace.
Why its Na Yin is called 炉中火, from 「论纳音取象」
气渐发辉,因薪而显,阴阳为治,天地为炉
Its qi begins to shine and shows itself through firewood; yin and yang do the work, and heaven and earth are the furnace.
Its Na Yin against the facing one, 山下火 (丙申 and 丁酉)
炉中山下,火盛木焚,金旺火灭也
Furnace and Foot of the Mountain: fire strong where wood burns, fire going out where metal is strong.

FAQ
Is 丁卯 a good or bad pillar?
Not on its own; that depends on the whole chart, which this site does not read. Structurally, Ding has no root in 卯, which clashes with 酉 and combines with 戌.
What is the Na Yin of Ding Mao?
Furnace Fire (炉中火), which Ding Mao shares with 丙寅 Bing Yin; the Na Yin names go in pairs, 30 for the 60 pillars. The San Ming Tong Hui explains how the name was chosen in its 论纳音取象 section, quoted above.
Which years are Ding Mao (丁卯) years?
Between 1900 and 2100: 1927, 1987, 2047. Each starts at Lichun, around February 4, not on January 1. Under the Chinese New Year rule the same years are the Year of the Yin Fire Rabbit.
