戊子 is pillar 25 of the sixty: the yang earth stem 戊 Wu over the Rat branch 子 Zi. The last 戊子 year was 2008 and the next is 2068; the next 戊子 day is Nov 10, 2026. The San Ming Tong Hui gives it the image of thunder, and it shares the Na Yin Thunderbolt Fire (霹雳火) with 己丑.

戊子……雷也

戊子: thunder.

Why its Na Yin is called 霹雳火, from 「论纳音取象」

盖气在一阳,形居水位,水中之火,非神龙则无

Its qi is at the first stirring of yang and its form in the place of water: fire inside water, which nothing but a divine dragon can make.

Its Na Yin against the facing one, 天上火 (戊午 and 己未)

霹雳天上,雷霆挥鞭,日月同照也

Thunderbolt and Sky Fire: thunder cracking its whip, and sun and moon shining together.

FAQ

Is 戊子 a good or bad pillar?

Not on its own; that depends on the whole chart, which this site does not read. Structurally, Wu has no root in 子, which clashes with 午 and combines with 丑.

What is the Na Yin of Wu Zi?

Thunderbolt Fire (霹雳火), which Wu Zi shares with 己丑 Ji Chou; the Na Yin names go in pairs, 30 for the 60 pillars. The San Ming Tong Hui explains how the name was chosen in its 论纳音取象 section, quoted above.

Which years are Wu Zi (戊子) years?

Between 1900 and 2100: 1948, 2008, 2068. Each starts at Lichun, around February 4, not on January 1. Under the Chinese New Year rule the same years are the Year of the Yang Earth Rat.
