甲午 is pillar 31 of the sixty: the yang wood stem 甲 Jia over the Horse branch 午 Wu. The last 甲午 year was 2014 and the next is 2074; the next 甲午 day is Nov 16, 2026. The San Ming Tong Hui gives it the image of refined metal, tempered a hundred times, and it shares the Na Yin Sand Metal (沙中金) with 乙未.

甲午……百炼精金
甲午: refined metal, tempered a hundred times.
Why its Na Yin is called 沙中金, from 「论纳音取象」
气已成,物质自坚实,混于沙而别于沙,居于火而炼于火
Its qi is complete and its substance firm: mixed with sand yet distinct from it, it sits in fire and is refined by fire.
Its Na Yin against the facing one, 海中金 (甲子 and 乙丑)
海中沙中,水土之辨,阴阳之分也
Sea Metal and Sand Metal: the difference between water and earth, the division of yin and yang.

FAQ
Is 甲午 a good or bad pillar?
Not on its own; that depends on the whole chart, which this site does not read. Structurally, Jia has no root in 午, which clashes with 子 and combines with 未.
What is the Na Yin of Jia Wu?
Sand Metal (沙中金), which Jia Wu shares with 乙未 Yi Wei; the Na Yin names go in pairs, 30 for the 60 pillars. The San Ming Tong Hui explains how the name was chosen in its 论纳音取象 section, quoted above.
Which years are Jia Wu (甲午) years?
Between 1900 and 2100: 1954, 2014, 2074. Each starts at Lichun, around February 4, not on January 1. Under the Chinese New Year rule the same years are the Year of the Yang Wood Horse.
