Lunar date
9th day of the 9th lunar month
Also called
Chung Yeung, Chongyang
The Double Ninth Festival falls on the 9th day of the 9th lunar month. In Chinese tradition nine is a yang number, so a day of two nines is "double yang", which is what Chongyang means. Customs include climbing hills and viewing chrysanthemums; in Hong Kong and Macau many families also visit ancestors' graves on this day.
Mainland China named the day Seniors' Day in its law on the elderly in 2012, and Taiwan marks it as Senior Citizens' Day.

Exact holiday days are announced each year by each government; check the official holiday list for your place before you plan.
